Sangakkara keeps Sri Lankan Hopes Alive

With a magnificent unbeaten century, Kumar Sangakkara helped Sri Lanka score a seven-wicket victory over England and kept his team’s hopes alive in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first. England posted 293/7 in 50 overs. Cook (59), Bell (20), Trott (76), Root (68) and Bopara (33*) were the top scorers. For Sri Lanka, Malinga, Eranga and Herath took two wickets each.

Chasing a victory target of 294, Sri Lanka lost Kushal Perera early, but Dilshan (44), Sangakkara (134*), Jayawardene (42) and Kulasekara (58*) batted superbly to see their team through. Sri Lanka reached 297/3 in 47.1 overs. Anderson took two wickets for England. Sangakkara was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
