The strong reaction from Alagiri came after Karunandhi on Thursday said that Stalin will lead the party after him. Alagiri said that DMK was not a mutt to appoint successor.

The war in the family is likely to affect the party and its members. Alagiri, who is also a Union Minister, said that his father had said that DMK was not a Sankara Mutt. In his statement, he made it clear that he will never accept anyone as party chief other than his father.
