Presidential Polls to be held on July 19

TNI Bureau: It’s official now! The Presidential elections in India will be held on July 19, while the counting will be held on July 22. President Dr. Pratibha Patil’s term will end on July 24.

Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath announced the poll dates at a press conference this evening. The notification for the poll would be issued on June 16, he said.

Last date for filing the nomination papers would be June 30, while the date of scrutiny would be July 2. The nominations could be withdrawn by July 4.

The electoral college for the Presidential elections is 4,896, which constitutes the 776 MPs and 4,120 MLAs and MLCs across the country. Nominated members of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and State Assemblies cannot vote in the Presidential polls.
