Speaking amid an ongoing debate in Parliament, the Prime Minister noted that discussions on the amendment continued late into the night, stretching till 1 AM. He asserted that concerns and misconceptions raised by members had been addressed with “logical and detailed responses,” and that all necessary clarifications had been provided.

Highlighting the long political discourse surrounding women’s reservation, Modi said the issue has been debated for nearly four decades and that the time has come to ensure justice for women, who make up nearly half of the country’s population. He stressed that their underrepresentation in decision-making processes even after decades of independence is “not appropriate” and must be corrected.

With voting in the Lok Sabha expected shortly, the Prime Minister urged all political parties to take a “thoughtful and sensitive” decision and support the amendment. He appealed to MPs to act in a manner that upholds the dignity and sentiments of women across the country.

“Crores of women are watching Parliament—its intent and its decisions,” he said, urging members to reflect on the women in their own families and listen to their inner conscience while casting their vote.

Calling the amendment a significant step towards empowering women, Modi expressed confidence that its unanimous passage would further strengthen both Nari Shakti and India’s democracy.

He described the moment as historic and urged MPs to come together to “create history” by granting rightful representation to women.

In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister reiterated that all doubts and concerns had been resolved during the debate and appealed to members to support the amendment in the larger interest of the nation’s women.
