While the entire world is praying for the safety of thousands of pilgrims stranded in Uttarakhand, some anti-social elements took advantage of the situation to put the humanity into shame. They raped a stranded woman tourist and her daughter and later murdered them in Gaurikund area of Kedarnath.
Another woman from Bihar was also raped. Unofficial reports say that these are not the only cases and many such incidents had taken place in the last few days by the locals.
In another development, three brothers (mule traders) were murdered and robbed off Rs 17 lakh. The accused are still at large. The rape cases took place under Ukhimath Police Station. Efforts are on to trace the culprits.
In another incident, Rs 24 lakh cash were recovered from a Sadhu. It is not immediately known whether he looted them from the Kedarnath treasury or any bank. In total, the Army have recovered Rs 1.25 crore in cash from such Sadhus or Babas. Some locals even chopped off fingers of the dead to steal jewellery.
