The 52-year-old Sanaullah was serving a life term, was attacked by a fellow inmate with a sharp weapon. Although it was not confirmed whether the attack was the result of any scuffle or a backlash to avenge Sarabjit’s death, the Union Home Ministry has launched a probe into the matter.

Kot Balwal Jail Superintendent Rajni Sehgal has been suspended by the Jammu and Kashmir government soon after the incident. The victim is being treated at Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu.

A case has been registered against Vinod Kumar, an ex-serviceman for attacking Sanaullah. Kumar, who hails from Uttarakhand, is serving life term. India has decided to provide consular access to Sanaullah. The Pakistani was arrested in April 1990 in connection with five cases of terror.
