TNI Bureau: Olympic silver medalist Vijay Kumar was promoted to Subedar Major in the Indian Army. He is currently serving as a Subedar with the 16 Dogra Regiment.

The athlete had expressed his displeasure after winning a medal in shooting at the London Olympics 2012 that he had got not a single promotion in last six years despite major achievements at the national and international sports events.
Sports Minister Ajay Maken had written a letter to the Defence Minister AK Antony recommending his name for promotion, who has brought glory for India.
Following his victory at the London Olympics, Vijay Kumar was also given Rs 30 lakh and a commendation medal.
