TNI Bureau: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi appealed to the Northeast people not to believe in the rumours, which are doing the rounds that students are fleeing Bangalore for safety.
Gogoi said that such rumours are creating panic amongst the north-east people in Karnataka. Even Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde rejected the rumours and speculations saying action will be taken against those spreading rumours. He said people need not to be panic they should not believe in such things.
“The Prime Minister spoke to the Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar. I, too, have spoken to him. There has been no incident in Karnataka. I appeal to everyone not to spread such rumours,” Shinde added.
Reacting to the rumours, BJP president Nitin Gadkari said that the Centre should take strong steps to ensure safety of Northeast people. This is an issue of Indian vs foreigner and government should leave the vote bank politics and should stop it.
He said that the Assam violence is not a communal violence, but the government should take strong action against the anti-India elements. This is a very serious issue that students are fleeing Bangalore and other states out of fear.
Northeast MPs will meet UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi over rumours on attacks on the people from the Northeast.
