The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, with Chief Secretary Anu Garg and senior officials in attendance. An MoU is expected to be signed soon with an Indian AI company to implement the project.

Under the plan, the School and Mass Education Department, through the Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA), will roll out AI-enabled classrooms in 5,370 government and government-aided secondary and higher secondary schools. The initiative will use interactive digital content and AI-based tools to help students better understand concepts and learn more effectively.

The system will be supported by four central broadcast studios in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, along with eight regional studios at zonal headquarters. These studios will deliver live and recorded lessons in Odia and English for students from Classes VI to XII. Teachers will be able to conduct live classes using digital devices, while students can attend sessions virtually and learn from subject experts across the state.

A digital assessment platform will track student participation and learning progress in real time, enabling more personalized teaching. The platform will also be used for teacher training, skill development and extracurricular learning.

To address connectivity challenges, about 50 percent of the schools will be connected through BharatNet or Fibernet, while the remaining schools will use satellite connectivity to ensure access in remote areas. Edge AI technology will allow data to be processed locally, enabling offline use and enhancing data security.

The project will follow the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. To protect student privacy, especially of minors, the system will use avatars instead of photographs in reports and dashboards.
