The Finance Department has directed government departments, PSUs, universities, autonomous bodies and state-supported societies to switch to EVs, aiming to reduce fuel costs and promote green mobility.

The government has fixed monthly hiring charges for EVs between ₹50,000 and ₹80,000, depending on the category of officials. Service providers will also receive a charging cost reimbursement of ₹2 per kilometre.

Departments can hire EVs through OREDA, which has been authorised to supply up to 300 vehicles on a rental basis. The new rates will remain in force for two years. Authorities have been asked to ensure strict compliance with the guidelines.
