The Odisha Government has given a massive blow to the common people just ahead of the festive season (Dussehra, Kumar Purnima or Gaja Laxmi Puja and Diwali) by hiking the bus fare with immediate effect.

The minimum fare was increased by Rs 3-5 in private and state transport buses. The ordinary and express bus fares were increased by 4 paise (to 59 paise and 62 paise respectively) per km. The luxury deluxe bus fares have been increased by 6 paise per km to 82 paise.
The AC deluxe bus fares have witnessed a steep hike of 7 paie to Re 1 per km. The passenger fare between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack will go up by Rs 1.20. It was a long-standing demand by the private bus operators to increase the bus fare because of rising diesel prices.
