TNI Bureau: Odisha marked a significant milestone in its technological and industrial growth with the foundation stone laying of the advanced 3D Glass Substrate Packaging Unit by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at Info Valley in Khordha district.
The project, being set up by 3D Glass Solutions, represents a major leap in India’s semiconductor ecosystem. With an investment of around ₹2,000 crore, the facility is expected to generate nearly 2,500 jobs and produce cutting-edge components crucial for emerging sectors like artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and defense electronics.
Praising the state government’s commitment, Ashwini Vaishnaw described the initiative as the beginning of a new era of development for Odisha. He emphasized that glass substrate packaging technology is poised to shape the future of the global semiconductor industry.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi highlighted that the project is not only a landmark for Odisha but also a defining moment in India’s technological advancement. He noted that this would be the country’s first advanced 3D glass substrate packaging facility, reinforcing Odisha’s position as a rising hub for high-tech manufacturing.
The Chief Minister also pointed out growing global confidence in the state, with leading companies such as Intel, Lockheed Martin, and Applied Materials associating with the project. He asserted that Odisha has emerged as a preferred investment destination due to its abundant resources, skilled workforce, robust infrastructure, strong connectivity, and responsive governance.
The unit is projected to produce 70,000 glass panels annually, along with 50 million assembled units and 13,200 advanced 3DHI modules. Officials stated that semiconductor investments in Odisha have already crossed ₹10,000 crore, with companies like RIR Power Electronics and SiCSEM establishing their presence in the state.
Inviting the youth to seize emerging opportunities, the Chief Minister urged students and engineers to build careers in technology, declaring, “If you want to shape the technologies of the future—Odisha is your destination.”
He further expressed confidence that Odisha would play a pivotal role in realizing Atmanirbhar Bharat, emerging as the launchpad for self-reliant growth in eastern India.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Odisha’s Electronics and IT Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary of the Electronics and IT Department Vishal Kumar Dev, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and IT Amitesh Sinha, and President & CEO of 3D Glass Solutions Babu Mandava, along with other senior officials and industry representatives.
