In a press release dated March 10, 2026, NCERT stated that its social science textbook “Exploring Society: India and Beyond” for Grade 8 (Part-II) included Chapter IV titled “The Role of Judiciary in our Society.” The council acknowledged concerns over the content and announced that the Director and members of NCERT were offering an unconditional and unqualified apology.

The statement further confirmed that the entire textbook has been withdrawn and is no longer available.

The development comes amid growing scrutiny over school curriculum content, particularly on topics related to institutions such as the Supreme Court of India and the broader judicial system.
