TNI Bureau: Senior BJP leader Manmohan Samal is poised to begin his second innings in the Rajya Sabha, marking a significant political development in Odisha’s landscape. The party has nominated him for the Upper House in 2026, reaffirming its trust in his organisational experience and political acumen. It is believed that he will be inducted as an Union Minister in Modi Cabinet sooner or later.
Samal is no stranger to the Rajya Sabha. He earlier served as a Member of Parliament from April 2000 to May 2004, during the BJP-BJD coalition era in Odisha. That period was marked by close coordination between the two parties, and Samal played a key role in strengthening the BJP’s organisational base in the state.
His renomination is being seen as both a reward for loyalty and a strategic move ahead of evolving political equations in Odisha. Known for his grassroots connect and organisational skills, Samal has remained an influential figure within the state unit of the BJP.
Alongside him, Sujeet Kumar has also been re-nominated for the Rajya Sabha in 2026. The dual nominations signal a calculated balance between experience and continuity in parliamentary representation as well strong policy making.
With this second stint, Samal is expected to play a pivotal role in articulating Odisha’s interests at the national level while strengthening the party’s position in the state. His return to Parliament marks both continuity and renewed political relevance.
