Killer Truck mows down People, Vehicles in Khandagiri

A sand-laden tipper, lost control near the Traffic Post in Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar, last evening, killing at least three people and leaving 20 others injured. At least five cars, two auto-rickshaws and six motorcycles came under its wheel and sustained extensive damage.

The driver of the truck, was badly beaten up by the angry locals. He has been hospitalised too. Many injured are in a critical condition. The tipper was coming down the Khandagiri Hill Road, when it lost balance and rammed into the vehicles standing at the Traffic Post.

The deceased have been identified as Nijamudin Khan (20), an autorickshaw driver, Biswanath Sasmal (40) of Jadupur and Monalisa Samal (20), a native of Jharsuguda. Monalisa was supposed to marry after two weeks. The locals blocked the NH-5 for over two hours. The police had to use force to disperse them.

In another incident, at least three people were killed and two others sustained injuries when a heavy vehicle rammed into a truck near Boinda under Athamalik area on the busy Angul-Sambalpur road. There was a huge traffic jam, as the police did not arrive on the spot on time. The incident occurred at around the midnight and the road was cleared only at 6 AM. A large number of commuters had a tough time, as they kept waiting for five-six hours on the road throughout the night.
