TNI Bureau: The Karnataka government has suspended senior IPS officer K Ramachandra Rao after a video allegedly showing him in a compromising situation inside his office went viral.
In the suspension order, the state said Rao’s conduct was unbecoming of a government servant and violated the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968. The action was taken pending a departmental inquiry. During the suspension, he will receive a subsistence allowance and will not be permitted to leave headquarters without official approval.
Police sources said the video is believed to be from 2017, when Rao was serving as Inspector General of Police of the Northern Range. Rao, however, denied the allegations, calling the video fake and saying he would take legal action.
Rao had earlier come under scrutiny in 2025 after his stepdaughter, Kannada actor Ranya Rao, was arrested in a gold smuggling case, following which he was placed on compulsory leave before being reinstated.
