Indians Detained, Stranded in Kuwait
TNI Bureau: There is a massive outrage over the detention of around 1,500 workers in Kuwait. They were held for alleged visa rule violation. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait is probing the matter and has sought consular access to the detainees.
According to agencies quoting the Embassy officials, many of the detainees have been released. Many others having valid documents may be released, but the remaining will be deported to India.
The Kuwait officials had launched a massive crackdown across the country to nab the people with illegal documents as part of their clean-up drive to restore law and order in the country. Over 2,000 people were reportedly arrested.
