India wins World Travel Awards, including ‘Best Destination’

TNI Bureau: In a significant development, India bagged three top tourism awards from the World Travel Awards (WTA) for being the best destination in the world. The country that attracts millions of visitors for its ancient culture and civilisation also won world’s leading tourist board award for its “Incredible India” campaign.

India also won award for world’s leading tourist attraction for Taj Mahal, which is one of the 7 wonders. It is regarded as the finest example of Mughal architecture. The strong presence of India in the field of tourism was recognised when it bagged awards at the WTA 2012 Grand Finale held for the first time in the country.

Tourism minister K. Chiranjeevi said that the ministry is planning to increase everything for tourism that had been neglected. The award ceremony was held at The The Oberoi in Gurgaon on Wednesday.

Besides these, Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Ltd’s (IRCTC) Maharaja Express received the award for the Leading Luxury Train. Minister Chiranjeevi and Parvez Dewan, Secretary – Tourism, Government of India received the awards.

The second phase of “Incredible India” campaign will focus more on the products that will attract foreigners to visit the country. The awards provided the ministry courage to make tourism famous worldwide. The ancient sculptures, which speak the story of our ancient tradition, if maintained properly, will help to attract more tourists in the coming days.
