India observe Anti-terrorism Day today

Anti -terrorism Day is being observed today across the country to mark the martyrdom of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. It was on this day in 1991, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated at Sriperumbudur of Tamil Nadu by the LTTE.

The day is observed to generate awareness among all sections of people, about the danger of terrorism and violence and its ill effect on the people. The objective behind the observance of Anti-Terrorism Day is to wean away the people from terrorism and violence.

Anti-terrorism pledge is taken in all Government offices, public sector undertakings and other public institutions to mark the day.

The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has released a TV spot ‘Sadbhav-The Idea of India,’ as the nation will observe Anti-Terrorism Day.
