TNI Bureau:
LPG Supply Situation
The government has asserted that there is no LPG shortage in the country. Domestic refinery production has been ramped up by nearly 40%, raising daily output to about 50 TMT, meeting over 60% of the total requirement.
The net import requirement has reduced to around 30 TMT. Additionally, 800 TMT of LPG cargoes from the United States, Russia, Australia and other countries are already secured and en route. These will be handled across India’s 22 import terminals.
Authorities confirmed that one month of LPG supply is firmly arranged, with further procurement ongoing. Panic-driven demand, which had surged to 89 lakh cylinders per day, has now normalized to around 50 lakh. To prevent hoarding, commercial cylinder allocation has been increased by 50%.
Fuel & Strategic Reserves
The government has also dismissed misinformation about fuel shortages, stating that India has robust strategic reserves. The country currently maintains about 60 days of stock cover, with a total reserve capacity of 74 days, including crude and petroleum products.
Nearly two months of steady fuel supply has already been secured, even amid global uncertainties. Officials emphasized that India’s energy security remains strong, and supply disruptions are unlikely in the near term.
The Centre has reassured citizens that both LPG and fuel supply chains are stable and urged people to avoid panic buying.
