TNI Bureau: August 2 brought mixed results for India at the London Olympics 2012. Saina Nehwal made history by reaching the semifinals in Badminton singles. However, Ronjan Sodhi’s exit in Shooting was a big setback.

Kashyap bowed out in men’s singles badminton, but Leander Paes and Sania Mirza won in the mixed doubles of Lawn Tennis. In Boxing, Jai Bhagwan crashed out, but Vijender stormed into the quarterfinals.

Shooting: Ronjan Singh Sodhi crashed out of the Double Trap Shooting at the London Olympics. Sodhi made a good start in the first round, but faltered at the next rounds and failed to qualify for the finals.

Vijay Kumar ended Stage 1 of the men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol qualifying event at overall fifth position on the table but joint second with 293 points.

Badminton: Saina Nehwal became the first badminton player from India to reach the semifinals at Olympics. She defeated Tine Baun (Denmark) 21-15, 22-20 in a nail-biting encounter. Parupalli Kashyap lost to World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei (Malaysia) 19-21, 11-21 in the quarterfinals.

Lawn Tennis: Leander Paes and Sania Mirza defeated Nenad Zimonjic and Ana Ivanovic (Serbia) 6-2, 6-4 to storm into the quarterfinals of the Lawn Tennis Mixed Doubles.

Boxing: Vijender Singh stormed into the quarterfinals in the men’s 75kg middleweight. He defeated Terrell Gausha 16-15 in a tough battle. In the men’s 60kg category, Jai Bhagwan was knocked out by Gani Zhailauov of Kazakhastan 8-16.
