TNI Bureau: India’s medal hopes at London 2012 took a severe beating yesterday, as World No. 1 archer Deepika Kumari crashed out in the first round. The Indian Hockey team also lost to New Zealand – their second straight loss.

Parupalli Kashyap became the first Indian man to reach the quarterfinals of badminton at Olympics. Saina Nehwal too reached the quarterfinals with an easy victory over her Dutch opponent.

Archery: World No. 1 Archer Deepika Kumari crashed out of the London Olympics after losing to Amy Oliver of Great Britain 2-6.

Shooting: India’s Rahi Sarnobat and Annu Raj Singh crashed out of the women’s 25 metre event. Rahi finished 19th, while Annu Raj was at 30th position.

Hockey: India lost to New Zealand 1-3 in their second match. India had lost to the Netherlands 2-3 in the first match.

Badminton: Parupalli Kashyap N Karunaratne of Sri Lanka 21-14, 15-21, 21-9 in the pre-quarterfinals. Saina Nehwal beat her Netherlands opponent Yao Jie with a 21-14, 21-16 to storm into the quarterfinals.

Lawn Tennis: Leander Paes and Vishnu Vardhan lost to Jo Wilfred Tsonga and Michael Llodra in 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-4 in the second round.
