Fodder Scam: Lalu Yadav gets 5-Year Jail Term

RJD Supremo, former Union Railway Minister and Ex-Bihar Chief Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav has been sentenced to five years in jail. Former Bihar CM and Congress leader Jagannath Mishra too got a four-year jail term. A fine of Rs 25 lakh has been imposed on Lalu, while Jagannath Mishra will have to pay Rs 2 lakh.

lalu-prasadLalu Yadav was found guilty of aiding the embezzlement of Rs 37 crore for fictitious medicines and fodder for cattle in the Rs 950 crore fodder scam. The CBI court’s verdict came 17 years after a case was registered. This verdict ensured that Lalu cannot contest the polls for 11 years.

JD(U) MP Jagdish Sharma was also sentenced to four years in jail in connection with the same case. He will have to pay Rs 2 lakh fine too. Both Lalu and Jagdish lost their Lok Sabha seats immediately as per the recent Supreme Court verdict on convicted politicians.

Former RK Rana was also sentenced to five years in jail and slapped with a fine of Rs 30 lakh. Four IAS officers and 25 suppliers who were accused in the same case, have been awarded imprisonment of four years each.
