EC asks Govt to defer Cash Transfer Scheme

TNI Bureau: The Election Commission has directed the UPA government to defer the implementation of its ambitious “gamechanger” direct cash transfer scheme till the Gujarat polls are over. The government’s reply failed to convince the Election Commission.

The Election Commission noted that the government could have avoided the announcement during the Gujarat elections, considering the spirit of poll code.

The direct cash transfer will be rolled out in 51 districts of India, including four from Gujarat, from January 1, 2013.
