Delhi Gangrape Victim cremated, India Mourns

TNI Bureau: The 23-year-old Delhi gangrape victim was cremated amidst tight security at the Crematorium in Dwarka Sector 24. Media was not allowed at the crematorium. The rituals took place in the wee hours under dense fog.

Earlier, the body of the victim was flown to Delhi in a special Air India place at around 3:30 AM. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi showed rare gesture to be present at the airport to receive the body. They consoled the victim’s family members.

Minister of state for Home Affairs RPN Singh, West Delhi MP Mahabal Mishra and Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta were present at the cremation.

Meanwhile, braving the chilling cold and dense fog, hundreds of people sat at Jantar Mantar throughout the night, mourning the death of braveheart girl. They demanded speedy trial of all accused and change in law to ensure safety for women in the country. Peaceful protests are being organised across the country to pay tribute to the gangrape victim.
