Death Toll Rises; 8 Odia Workers Confirmed Dead in Tamil Nadu Gas Leak

TNI Bureau: The death toll of Odia workers in the ammonia gas leak at a seafood processing factory in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district has risen to 8, with Subasini Juanga of Balisahi in Sunapentha under Harichandanpur block of Kendujhar district succumbing to injuries during treatment.

Earlier, Jamuni Juanga had also died, while another deceased worker is suspected to be Phulomani Juanga from Odisha. The other victims have been identified as Gumani Juanga, Geeta Juanga, Champabati Juanga and Shibani Juanga, all from Kendujhar district.

The ammonia leak occurred on Sunday at a private seafood processing and export unit in Kannigaipair village near Periyapalayam. Around 120 migrant workers, including many from Odisha, Assam and Jharkhand, were present at the facility when the toxic gas leaked.

According to official figures, 64 workers were affected in the incident, and several remain under treatment. Authorities are continuing to monitor the condition of the injured workers.
