AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Congress President addressed the rally of thousands and defended the party and government. Rahul Gandhi talked about the RTI and sought to give all credit to the Congress for bringing such a revolutionary act, which has become a strong tool in exposing corruption at various levels.

Rahul also promised to get the Lokpal Bill passed in the Parliament and said that Congress would give ample opportunity to the youth to participating in nation-building. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh defended the government’s policies, including the FDI in Retail, saying it would help the farmers as well as big and small retailers. He accused the opposition of spreading misinformation about the government’s policies.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi slammed the Opposition and accused the parties of trying to weaken the democratic institutions. Sonia challenged the corruption charges against the party and its leaders and said anyone found guilty of corruption won’t be spared. “Those who are levelling charges against us are neck-deep in corruption,” she said. Sonia also played the “secularism” card, saying the Congress is the only secular party in the country.
