Congress gets closer to Mulayam, not to fight in Kannauj

Date:

TNI Bureau: It’s almost official now that the Congress has got a “trusted” ally in Samajwadi Party led by Mulayam Singh Yadav. After giving due importance to Mulayam at the dinner party hosted to mark the third anniversary of UPL II Government at the Centre, Congress has decided not to field any candidate in Kannauj Lok Sabha bypolls.

Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in-law and UP CM Akhilesh Yadav’s wife, Dimple Yadav has filed nomination papers for Kannuaj Lok Sabha seat. The by-polls in Kannuaj are being held after Akhilesh resigned to take over the Uttar Pradsh CM.

Diple is not new to political battles. She had earlier contested in Firozabad in 2009 after her husband vacated the seat to retain Kannauj. However, she had lost to Congress candidate Raj Babbar.

At that time, Mulayam had announced that no woman from the Yadav household would enter electoral battle. However, he has now changed his stance after seeing the conducive environment.
