CBI sacks Lawyer in 2G Scam

Date:

TNI Bureau: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has removed its lawyer for his alleged interaction with one of the telecom companies accused of criminal conspiracy and cheating in the 2G scam.

AK Singh was sacked on the basis of audio tapes that revealed him advising Sanjay Chandra, Managing Director of Unitech, the firm, which is one of the accused in the 2G scam. The CBI questioned both Singh and Chandra.

The joint parliamentary committee (JPC) will examine the CBI’s allegation today. The CBI alleged that Chandra had met the prosecutor outside court and had conversation over phone. However, Unitech denied the charges saying, that was a fabricated voice recording.

The BJP is likely to press demand the extension of the JPC. The BJP leaders may raise the matter in the JPC today.
