While, Congress claimed the cash transfer scheme will enhance the welfare systems like job guarantee, food guarantee, health guarantee, forest produce guarantee, etc, the BJP suspected on the government’s announcement.

Opposing the move, senior BJP leaders like LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, and Arun Jaitley submitted a memorandum to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) V S Sampath demanding the withdrawal of the scheme.

They alleged that the scheme will influence the voting in Gujarat and the Congress will take the advantage of the scheme.

Meanwhile, the PMO has directed the ministries and departments for the implementation of the scheme, which is likely to be operationalised from January 1, 2013.
