The Congress hopes that the bill will help the party during election campaign and come to the power for third time.

The ordinance on Right to Food was immediately sent to the President for his consent after the Cabinet approved it amidst criticism from the opposition. It will be a tough challenge for the government that how it will fund the project. The government needs to spend Rs 1.25 lakh crore per year on the project to cover 67 per cent of the country’s 1.2 billion people.
