TNI Bureau: Brahmapur BJP MP Dr. Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy has urged Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to take immediate steps over delays in social security pensions, describing the issue as causing widespread public discontent. In his letter, the MP highlighted that the crisis in delivery of Madhubabu Pension Yojana and National Old Age Pension has led to severe hardship among beneficiaries due to software and technical issues.
Dr. Panigrahy said thousands of elderly, widows, and differently-abled persons in his constituency have reportedly not received pensions for the past three months. He also cited reports of distressing incidents, including the suicide of a 66-year-old widow in Ganjam due to financial hardship, and referred to a Supreme Court suo motu intervention in a similar case, directing timely delivery of social security benefits without procedural delays.
The MP demanded immediate restoration of pension payments through a manual system via SSEPD until the digital system becomes fully functional. He also sought strict instructions to district collectors to monitor distribution, a high-level inquiry into the Ganjam incident, and compensation for the bereaved family. Copies of the letter have been sent to senior state officials, including the Chief Secretary, RDC, and district collectors.
