TNI Bureau: A Trinamool Congress (TMC) delegation led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee arrived in New Delhi today to meet Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over objections to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in poll-bound West Bengal.
Ahead of the meeting, Mamata visited Banga Bhawan and alleged that families from Bengal who had come to seek justice were being intimidated by Delhi Police. She said nearly 30 families were staying at one Banga Bhawan and about 100 across two facilities, mostly from Malda and Murshidabad, claiming they had lost close relatives due to SIR-related actions.
On camera, Mamata confronted Delhi Police personnel outside Banga Bhawan, accusing them of creating fear and restricting movement. She announced a press conference where affected families would share their experiences.
In a statement, TMC said the visit was prompted by heavy police deployment outside Banga Bhawan, which the party described as intimidation. Mamata also criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah and appealed for restraint, saying people from Bengal had come to Delhi only to seek justice.
