TNI Bureau: A day after clashes between Police and anti-rape protesters, who have been demanding justice for the 23-year-old Para medical student, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde justified the police crackdown on the protesters.

Instead of meeting the protesters and promising them for the strong laws against the rapists, he blasted on the protesters, who took their protests to Rashtrapati Bhavan and even staged demonstration at India Gate.

Shinde said that Rashtrapati Bhavan is a prestigious house of the country, but the protesters were breaking the public property there, which is condemnable.

He also said that strong action will be taken against the protesters, who prompted violence during the protests at India Gate and Rashtrapati Bhavan. A probe has been ordered to find out the protesters, who were responsible for injuring the policemen.

When asked why he did not address the protesters at India Gate, he compared them to Maoists for their act. “It’s very easy to say that the Home Minister should go meet protesters there. Tomorrow if BJP workers demonstrate or if Maoists demonstrate with weapons, will I go and meet them too?”, he said.

He said that the government will take all possible measures towards the safety of women in the capital. When asked about when strict action will be taken in rape cases, he said that everything will be discussed at a meeting of Chief Secretaries and DGPs on rape cases on January 4. Later, the government will take the views of each state.
