Earlier, Pune won the toss and elected to field. Hyderabad was restricted to 119/8 in 20 overs. Odia lad Biplab Samantray, who was playing just his second match in IPL 6, was the top scorer with 37. Amit Mishra made 30. For Pune, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took three wickets, while Rahul Sharma took two wickets.
Chasing a victory target of 120, Pune Warriors were going well till the 17th over, as they were 101/4. However, there was a sudden batting collapse and they bundled out for 108 in 19 overs; thus losing the match by 11 runs. Uthappa scored 22, while Angelo Mathews made 20. Amit Mishra, who was declared ‘Man of the Match’ for his all-round performance, took four wickets, including a hat-trick. Thisara Perera took three wickets.
