In a huge embarrassment to India and efforts of Himachal Tourism, an American tourist was gang-raped by three truckers in Manali in the early hours of Tuesday. She was also robbed of her cellphone and cash.
The 29-year-old married woman, who hails from California, was travelling alone. According to her, she had gone to Vashisth Hot Water Spring and spent three hours there with her friends. While returning to Manali at around 1:15 AM, which is just 2.5 km from the spot, she sought lift from a truck driver.
The three men present in the truck, took her to Manali-Rohtang Pass road and raped her at a place between Bahang and Palchan villages. The victim was raped for two hours before being dumped at Manali bus stop at 3:30 AM.
The mefical examination of the victim had confirmed rape. A massive manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits. They are reportedly in the age group of 18-25 years.
