West Indies reach Women’s World Cup Final

Date:

TNI Bureau: The West Indies women created history, as they reached the final of the ICC
Women’s World Cup for the first time. They defeated Australia by 8 runs in the last Super Six match to make it to the final. West Indies will take on Australia again in the final on Sunday.

This is the first time West Indies women have scored a victory over Australia. They had scored just 164 in 47 overs with contribution from Deandra Dottin (60) and Natasha McLean (26). Megan Schutt and Holly Ferling took three wickets, while Erin Osdonpatoe took two wickets.

Chasing a victory target of 165, Australia suffered a rare batting collapse and bowled out for 156 in 48.2 overs. Alex Blackwell made 45, while Jess Cameron scored 39. Rachael Haynes made 21. Shanel Daley took three wickets, while Stafanie Taylor took two wickets.

At least three Australian batswomen were run out, leading to speculations whether the Kangaroos lost intentionally to prevent England from reaching the final. Even though England scored a 15-run win over New Zealand in other match, they failed to qualify for the final.
