UP Govt spends Rs 120 Crore to protect VIPs

Date:

TNI Bureau: While Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit talks about minimising security to the VIPs after the brutal gangrape of 23-year-old para-medical student rocked the national capital, her Uttar Pradesh counterpart Akhilesh Yadav is spending Rs 120 crore a year to provide security to around 1500 VIPs.

Media reports said that the Uttar Pradesh government is spending huge amount of public money deploying over 2,913 police officials for the VIPs. Even Inspector General of Police (Law & Order) Badri Prasad Singh admitted that 1,476 VIPs in the state are being given protection.

“Police does a security check of the threat perception to a person who has applied for security from the state and thereafter the home department approves it,” he added.

Even though, the security is a status symbol for the important political leaders and government officers, it should not be used in a large manner. This is the reason behind the growing number of crime in the state.

Report said that giving security is bigger under the ruling Samajwadi Party. Apart from SP MPs and legislators, security is being provided to many party workers and office-bearers.
