TNI Bureau: The Juvenile Board on Thursday rejected Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy’s plea, giving relief to the accused in the Delhi gangrape-murder case. Swamy had sought the trial of juvenile accused, who had brutally raped the girl twice.
The Board presided over by Principal Magistrate Geetanjali Goel dismissed the petition filed by Swamy seeking no mercy to be shown to juvenile as his act was brutal. He said that the crime committed by the juvenile showed that he was not minor.
Swamy had appealed to the Board that the juvenile should be prosecuted like all other co-accused in the case. He had referred the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). While JJ Act considers above 18 as adults, IPC says below 12 as minor.
On the other hand, the prosecution has finished in-camera arguments on framing of charges against five accused in the fast-track court today.
