Aakash 2 showcased at United Nations
TNI Bureau: After India, World’s cheapest tablet Aakash 2 was launched at the United Nations by Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. Now’s India’s innovation received international status. The upgraded version Aakash 2 will help school children in remote areas to have access to world class facilities.
The device, which could be described as a game changer, would be available to 220 million students for free, according to Indian ambassador Hardeep Puri.
While Datawind CEO Suneet Tuli claims that the idea is Indian and assembling and programming have been done in India, but there were reports that the device has been sourced from Chinese firms.
The advanced version of Aakash was launched on November 11 by President Pranab Mukherjee in India. ‘Aakash 2’, is powered by 1 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, a 7-inch capacitative touch screen and a battery lasts for at least 3 hours.
