Puri Sea Beach remains unsafe for Tourists
By Chinmayee Dash: The continuous drowning incidents in Puri have put a question mark on the safety measures taken by the authorities at the sea beach which is being visited by thousands of tourists every day.
Sea in Puri continues to be unsafe with many drowning incidents over the past years. Recently, a Russian woman drowned at sea in Puri adding one more incident in the state. She was an ISKCON devotee.
Last year in November, two tourists were swept away by the high tide. They were software engineers Sonu Gupta (Chhattisgarh) and Hemant Choudhury (Maharashtra). They were working for a private company in the state capital Bhubaneswar.
The drowning case is a growing concern for the administration, as 25 people have died so far of drowning at the Puri Sea beach over the last couple of years.
About 60 home guards have recently been hired for guarding the sea beach. However, the incidents are still being reported. The administration needs to take strong step to set things in order and prevent such mishaps.
Puri, which has been one of the religious destinations for tourists over the years, has failed to provide security to them. If the administration doesn’t take strong measures to prevent such mishaps, the Puri Sea Beach will turn into a death bed for the tourists.
