Sri Lanka to play five-match ODI Series in India
After the West Indies team quit the ongoing series in India due to some payment dispute with their Board, the BCCI roped in Sri Lanka to play five ODIs in India between November 1 and 15 to fill the void.
West Indies played three ODIs, while one ODI was abandoned due to Cyclone Hudhud. They skipped the remaining one ODI, one T20 and three Test matches, causing heavy losses to the BCCI, which now seeks legal opinion to sue the West Indies Cricket Board. In addition, the BCCI may bar West Indies players from the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a punishment.
India also wanted Sri Lanka to play another T20, but the Sri Lankan Cricket Board decided to go with ODIs only keeping in view the 2015 World Cup. India are currently ranked 3rd in ODI rankings, while Sri Lanka are placed 4th. Both teams are separated by just two points.
The details of the venues and fixtures will be announced. However, it is believed that those venues, which lost out due to the pullout of West Indies players, would be retained. Kolkata, Cuttack, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Ahmedabad are the possible venues for India-Sri Lanka ODI series.
