Maruti reopens Manesar Plant amid Heavy Security

Date:

TNI Bureau: Maruti Suzuki India on Tuesday reopened its riot-hit Manesar plant amid tight security a month after it was shut down following the violence in which one senior HR official was killed and several others were injured.

The workers were seen standing in queue outside the plant’s entrance gate. The Haryana government has provided 500 personnel, out of which 200 are deployed inside the factory and 300 in the premises to avoid violence.

The firm also formed its own special force including ex-servicemen for protection of the plant. It could be noted that the firm has deployed the security forces fearing possible violence after it decided to terminate 500 permanent workers, who were allegedly found to be involved in last month’s violence inside the plant.

The MSI is also planning to sack other 500 contract workers for their alleged role in the violence.

The company had shut down the plant on July 21 following the violence on July 18. It had to bear loss of over Rs.1, 400 crore during the lockout.
