India win Bronze at Junior Women Hockey World Cup

Indian girls made history, as they won the first-ever medal for the country at the Junior Women Hockey World Cup. India won a bronze medal by beating England 3-2 on penalties.

The 18-year-old Rani scored the lone goal in the regulation time and then struck twice in the penalties to seal the victory for the team. In the penalties, only 5 out of 14 hits taken by both teams, were successful.

Hockey-WomenRani scored the first goal for India in the 13th minute. Anna Toman found the equaliser in the 55th minute. The score was 1-1 after 70 minutes. In the penalties, only Emily Defroant scored twice for England, while Rani scored two goals for India. Naveet scored one.

India had lost to the Netherlands 3-0 in the semifinals. The latter won the tournament with a 4-2 victory over Argentina on the penalties. The Hocke India has announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh each for the players of the bronze medal winning team.
