TNI Bureau: US President Donald Trump, during a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France, said the United States would support India in the event of an attack, particularly if Modi remains the leader.
Trump praised India–US defence ties and called PM Modi a respected leader, describing him as “calm and cool.” He said the US values its relationship with India and would stand with the country during any conflict under Modi’s leadership.
Referring to his presidency, Trump said India has a “great friend” in the White House and expressed strong admiration for the country.
The two leaders met after more than 16 months, marking renewed high-level engagement between the two nations. Their discussions reportedly covered defence ties, energy cooperation, developments in West Asia, the Strait of Hormuz situation, and progress on a proposed India–US trade agreement.
Officials said the trade deal negotiations are in their final phase, following an interim agreement reached earlier this year.
