Trump, Iranian President Sign 14-Point Peace Deal

Date:

TNI Bureau: US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have formally signed a landmark 14-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking the first major agreement between the two countries in years and paving the way for a broader peace settlement.

The agreement provides for an immediate end to military operations and launches a 60-day negotiation process aimed at resolving longstanding disputes over sanctions and Iran’s nuclear programme.

Key Highlights of the 14-Point Deal

🔹 Immediate ceasefire and an end to military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon.

🔹 Mutual commitment to respect sovereignty and refrain from interference in each other’s internal affairs.

🔹 A 60-day period of negotiations to conclude a comprehensive peace agreement.

🔹 Removal of the US naval blockade around Iran within 30 days.

🔹 Reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, restoring normal shipping and oil supplies.

🔹 Phased easing of sanctions, including those affecting Iranian oil exports and financial transactions.

🔹 Release of frozen Iranian assets, with billions of dollars expected to become available during the negotiation period.

🔹 Plans for at least $300 billion in reconstruction and economic development assistance, largely backed by Gulf and Asian partners.

🔹 Iran’s reaffirmation that it will not develop nuclear weapons and its willingness to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

🔹 No new US sanctions or military deployments during the negotiation period.

🔹 Creation of a joint mechanism to oversee implementation of the agreement.

🔹 Future settlement to be endorsed by the UN Security Council, making it internationally binding.

President Trump described the accord as a breakthrough that could avert a global economic crisis and stabilize energy markets, while President Pezeshkian said the agreement offered a chance to resolve differences through diplomacy.

Oil prices declined after news of the deal, amid expectations of increased Iranian crude exports and the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

While several countries welcomed the development, critics in the US and Israel voiced concerns over the details of sanctions relief and the future of Iran’s missile and nuclear capabilities. The coming 60 days are expected to determine whether the interim agreement evolves into a lasting peace accord.
