Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar marks World Blood Donor Day

Reinforcing the importance of voluntary blood donation and community participation in saving lives, Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar observed World Blood Donor Day with an awareness programme and blood donation camp on its premises. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from hospital staff, attendants, volunteers, and members of the public, with more than 40 individuals donating blood to support patients in need.

The programme aimed to raise awareness about the critical role of regular voluntary blood donation in maintaining an adequate and safe blood supply for emergency care, surgeries, cancer treatment, thalassemia patients, and other life-saving medical interventions.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Devi Prasad Acharya, Consultant – Blood centre , Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar, said, “Every unit of blood donated has the potential to save multiple lives. Voluntary blood donors are the backbone of our healthcare system, ensuring that blood is available whenever patients need it. Through this awareness initiative, we aim to encourage more people, especially young individuals, to become regular blood donors and contribute to this noble cause.”

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saktimaya Mohapatra, Cluster Director – South East, Manipal Hospitals, emphasized the significance of community-driven healthcare initiatives. He said, “World Blood Donor Day is an opportunity to recognize and thank the selfless individuals who donate blood and help save lives. At Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar, we are committed not only to providing advanced healthcare services but also to promoting awareness and social responsibility. The encouraging participation in today’s blood donation camp reflects the community’s commitment to supporting healthcare beyond hospital walls.”
