TNI Bureau: Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee was attacked by miscreants while travelling through Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The attack occurred when Banerjee was on his way to meet the family of Sanju Karmakar, who was reportedly a victim of post-election violence.
As confirmed from the visuals, Banerjee came under attack with eggs and stones. The party alleged that BJP-backed miscreants were behind the incident. Amid the chaos, some individuals physically assaulted him, prompting security personnel to immediately intervene.
Following the attack, security staff escorted Abhishek from the area while making him wear a helmet for protection. Despite the incident, the TMC leader chose not to abandon his visit and met the bereaved family.
TMC strongly condemned the attack and accused the BJP of resorting to intimidation and violence. The party stated that the incident reflected a politics of vendetta and hatred.
Banerjee was later taken to Apollo Hospitals in Kolkata for medical examination and treatment. Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the hospital to inquire about his condition.
