Odisha to Conduct Special Intensive Electoral Roll Revision Starting July 1

Date:

TNI Bureau: The Election Commission of India has designated Odisha to participate in the Phase-III Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, commencing on July 1, 2026. This initiative is intended to ensure the accuracy and completeness of voter lists in preparation for upcoming electoral events.

The Commission’s announced schedule places Odisha in the initial phase of this national revision effort, alongside Mizoram, Sikkim, and Manipur. The established qualifying date for this revision is July 1, 2026.

Key activities include Booth Level Officers (BLOs) undertaking door-to-door visits from May 30 to June 28 for voter verification and data compilation. Polling station rationalization is slated for completion by June 28, with the preliminary electoral roll to be released on July 5.

The designated period for submitting claims and objections runs from July 5 to August 4. The resolution of these claims and objections will extend until September 2, culminating in the publication of Odisha’s final electoral roll on September 6, 2026.

The Election Commission highlighted that this SIR exercise is being undertaken in conjunction with current Census-related operations. Political parties have been requested to designate Booth Level Agents (BLAs) for each polling booth to foster transparency and broader engagement in the revision process.

Nationally, this Phase-III exercise anticipates the involvement of over 3.94 lakh BLOs and 3.42 lakh BLAs, encompassing approximately 36.73 crore voters across 16 states and three Union Territories.
