Pak Umpire Asad Rauf lands in IPL Fixing Row

Date:

In a sensational development today, name of renowned Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf cropped up in the IPL spot-fixing row, forcing the ICC to withdraw him from the Champions Trophy. Bollywood actor Vindoo Dara Singh, who was arrested by the Mumbai Police, has named Rauf.

According to Vindoo, Rauf, who has officiated in 48 Tests and 98 ODIs so far, has been in touch with the bookies and even received gifts from them. Vindoo was said to be in good terms with Asad Rauf.

Rauf, a key member of the ICC Elite Panel, has been considered as one of the clean and strong umpires in the world. Last year, Mumbai-based model Leena Kapoor had levelled sexual exploitation allegations against him. The case is pending with the Mumbai Police.

The latest development has put Rauf’s umpiring career at stake. The PCB has expressed surprise over this, but refused to believe the reports unless the police provide strong evidences against him.
